Packages – for any H&S resource needs
Winsland provides great H&S support to business in a variety of packages – all designed to meet your needs to have H&S resource on tap or on site without you having to add headcount.
This is consistent with our philosophy of Health and Safety being something that can be delivered at reasonable cost – and every employee is adding both direct costs (wages) and typically a loading of 30% indirect (ACC, Holiday pay, Sick leave, Training, Meetings etc.). So we give businesses alternatives.
And we recognise the need for Health and Safety people will change over time. Most notably, once your health and safety system is in place (data loaded / users trained) the requirement will drop off. So business needs flexibility to adjust support as the system matures and managers and supervisors take more responsibility for health and safety as part of their day-to-day job.
Hire a virtual health and safety advisor
Winsland might provide a dedicated person who is on site for pre-determined times and available to cover any one-off events that need support. You use this virtual health and safety advisor to complete regular H&S tasks such as audits, running inductions, updating records, managing contractor H&S and incident and corrective action follow up. For most SME, 4-8 hours a fortnight works well.
Temporary health and safety person
For some businesses, using a temporary health and safety person to fill a short-term gap (typically whilst recruiting for a permanent role) or to fill a project role lasting for a fixed term, makes a lot of sense.
If it is a vacant permanent role you are typically looking at 3 months to recruit and onboard a new person – can you really leave the role unfilled for that long? If the answer is yes, you need to ask if you need it in the first place or a business partnership arrangement with us or another provider might met your needs.
For a project role we often form part of the team as the H&S expert working casual hours required to support the project. Our work with CHEP included filling this role.
We offer you one of our consultants from our network if they are a good fit, or we conduct a market search for someone who matches your need. You manage the process of contracting through your normal HR processes. We charge a fee of 7.5% for our services.

Case study – BRANZ
BRANZ wanted a safe pair of hands to manage its HSE function on an interim basis whilst they recruited a full time person for the role.
Winsland filled the gap as the acting H&S manager. But we did not simply warm the seat. We took the opportunity during our 3 month engagement to complete outstanding projects in the form of;
Consistent with Winsland approach to interim assignments, we did not simply “mind the shop” but proactively advanced some important health and safety issues for the client organisation.

Case study – Drury Farms

Drury farms employ 4 people full time and a number of casuals. They engaged Winsland to provide health and safety system for its operations but, given their size, can’t afford support positions such as an H&S advisor. Their plan is to have the Admin role manage health and safety but that person is not capable of doing so. So they asked Winsland to provide them with a person 4 hours a month to provide that support working from their site. The plan is to use this support to train up the Admin person so there is an additional purpose in the arrangement.
