Advice and guidance
Few people are expert at everything – at times you just need to run things past someone you can trust. That is where we come in.
From earmuffs to chemicals, from machine guarding to traffic management plans, from zoonosis to noise – we have probably been there.
Regardless of your question – feel free to give us a call. An initial consultation is free and without obligation.

Policy & procedures

A health and safety manual describes the policy and all procedures you need to manage health and safety in your business. The risk is you can have a wonderful document but it is seldom used.
Most small businesses do not need a manual – but you need an advisor on tap to provide practical, targeted assistance appropriate to needs as they arise. This is where Winsland comes in.
If you really need a manual you can borrow one from the internet or ask AI to write you one. Or Winsland can provide a template for you and help you customise it.
We recommend your own manual as it needs to reflect what is important for your business. For example, you don’t need anything on noise if you are a library. If you a roofer, then the manual needs to cover work at height. And things like emergency plan and induction need to be specific to your operation. This is where we help organisations.
Health and safety manual content is free to users of the Winsland Health and Safety portal
Audit and assurance
Our team provide audit and inspections to identify improvement opportunities and deliver assurance, helping you maintain a safer and more compliant workplace.
We customise audits but do use AS/NZS4801 or ISO48001 where clients want these.
Audit and inspection provides assurance at all levels of the organisation that the business has health and safety under control – compliant, a safe work environment, safe work practices and a strong safety focus.
The inspection process checks the controls for critical risks are in place and working. This is a regular process undertaken internally with a key output being to identify improvement opportunities. If it is a series of ticks, it is probably time to review the process.
The audit is more through, will include elements of the HSE System (policies and procedures) and assess compliance against applicable standards and regulations. Most importantly, the audit is an external check, thus independent. The audit is a critical part of the organisation’s “officers” undertaking the due diligence the law requires.

Managing Data – the Winsland Portal

Think of health and safety and most people think of paperwork, which translates into time and effort being required. Minimising the pain of paperwork is at the heart of the Winsland Health and Safety Portal.
A word on paperwork. Essentially it is your insurance policy. Firstly, it allows you to keep track of whether you and your people are compliant with date driven things like license renewals, fire drills and training and ensures you are compliant. Secondly, it allows you to demonstrate you have identified and are actively controlling your risks. If you can’t show this and the worst happens then its like not having an insurance policy.
With our mission being helping small to medium sized businesses navigate health and safety and philosophy of sorting the nice to haves from essentials, we have developed the Winsland Health and Safety Portal which any business with up to 50 employees can use to manage their health and safety. Access is free to our clients there is no ongoing fee, so we don’t lock you in. In fact, there is the option to run independently on your own Microsoft or Google system.
Temporary resource
One solution to filling a temporary health and safety staffing gap, after confirming you need the position in the first place, is a temporary or fixed term person. This provides some continuity whilst recruitment is underway.
Some organisations need people to be the health and safety expert on a project, particularly if specialist knowledge such as machine safety, asbestos or confined space work are required.
Winsland can fill the need with an experienced health and safety person, backed by the Winsland team.

Incident investigation

At times organisations need independent incident investigators as consciously or otherwise, barriers are raised / the field of vision .
We use standard incident investigation tools and techniques to produce a through and professional evaluation of root causes and develop recommendations to address any issues.
